Neil's Blog 2008

Some 8 months ago I stood on top of Montmatre in Paris and looked out over the panorama. I counted less than 5 building cranes, looking 10 miles out over some 200 degree view. Last week I stood at the top of Primrose Hill in London and could see just about as far. The difference? I counted 97 cranes. So long as you accept that construction is a good barometer for an economy, it's a stark comment.

An Indian Chief greeted a friend by raising his hand in the traditional salute and saying "Chance!"

"Chance?" his friend asked, "You must mean 'HOW'?"

"I know how", the Chief responded, "I'm looking for chance".

Isn't it amazing how we get caught up in the things that, looking back, weren't the important stuff? And miss the important stuff out...

So, rather belatedly, Happy New Year! How many resolutions have survived the first three weeks? Something to think about eh?

I've been busy on lots of small things - including going to Cape Canaveral to watch the Space Shuttle go nowhere fast, and Key West because its the end of the line. And on the journey I made many new distinctions about business, live and the value of not launching a Space Shuttle just because people wanted it to go.

Over the years I have formed many views/opinions that in later life I have opted to change. Such as "I can't tie shoelaces" (I can, most of the time), or "I'm not musical" (currently learning the guitar). These limiting beliefs must always be challenged, and I find the slides of Tom Peters (www.tompeters.com) a great way to challenge my views and those of the wider world.

In the spirit of his latest slides, and following his direct request, I steal a few choice slides for your delictation....try it!

Click here for this slide set (takes a few seconds to download), or visit www.tompeters.com for all his slides.
