Assignment
Initially, review and standardise sales commission processes for this global banking software division of Misys plc. Main focus was on the calculation element, whilst also touching on modelling, multiple commission plan design/distribution/storage, accruals, revenue recognition, royalties, partnerships and recharges. Project remit changed in March 07 to include Healthcare division and a significant change in the reward mechanism.
What Neil did
The role was very much hands-on and covered a number or disciplines:
Consultancy:- recommending changes to commission process and working with other consultancies on what can be achieved.
Management:- working with existing local finance staff to audit / review both current and past years, and work towards solution.
Project Management:- keep stakeholders informed of project progress (both in terms of "doing the work" and "managing the work"). Pull different divisions together to deliver one company-wide solution. Select and deploy solution. Redistribute administrator functions to most appropriate locations.
Administration:- calculation, approval, monitoring and reporting commission payments.
Result
By working with Sales Finance and HR during a period of significant change within the organisation, the result is company-wide thinking on design and processing of commission. The revised method of rewarding sales effort is also much clearer and has unambiguous rules. We opted to go with semi-automated commission processing with options available to more fully automate as business requirements evolve.
